Club Hard To Explain

Number of posts in January 2007: One. No it hasn't been a very productive New Years start for me. Joe's problems have been quite consuming. But I did manage to block it all out for one night by going to a rock club.  "What's that?" you might say? Well like a hip-hop club but instead it plays rock. What a ingenious idea! (^_^) ha!

All this time, I've seen and been to reggae clubs, hip-hop clubs, salsa clubs. But when it comes to rock I always imagine a live performance or a concert of some sort complete with head banging, crowd surfing and moshing. Who woulda thunk it to just play rock music (people in my era would call it alternative rock) in a club?

Enter Hard to Explain, the self-proclaimed first and best 00's rock party in town.  What a fitting name to describe such a simple idea. I guess it's my fault for being so blind to music other than hip-hop and J-pop. Rock is alive, but just different from what I remember. The bands have all changed and I was shocked that I only knew 2 songs the whole night, but it sure was good music. And it being in JZ Brat in the Cerulean Hotel Tokyu made it just that much better. For one thing JZ Brat is usually an upscale restaurant with jazz entertainment, so the place is cleaner than your average dance club. The best part was that it was a club with all the people and loud music and drinking, but without all the meat-market- booty grinding- I'm here to get laid energy. Good clean fun dancing was a great change of pace. Jonnifer, Yuki, Greg, Megumi, Shish, Vinay, Maki: Thanks for a great time!
