Freaky Meat
Yakiton-Daichi
I have a list of interesting raw food that I've eaten over the years in my about-me section. Raw whale, horse, and shark. At Aya's going away party at Yakiton-Daichi in Shibuya, I was treated to some other "interesting foods". I was so excited to be able to add to the list last night. And although some of these aren't raw, I definitely think that they are worthy enough to be added on the list.

liverRaw beef liver
I was prepared to eat this one since I'm a liver fan myself. But upon sticking that bad boy in my mouth all I could think was nasty. It's like eating a little plastic bag of half-cooked blood. Like the blood that oozes out of beef steaks when you throw it on the grill. Gather all that up and put it in a little bite sized plastic bag, then sprinkle with salt. Presto, raw liver. Eew, gross.

heartRaw pork heart
Thankfully this was much better than the liver. The egg yolk and sesame seeds did wonders for the flavor. I actually wouldn't mind eating this one again. If you've ever eaten beef tongue before the texture is similar but softer.

boobGrilled pork boobs
OK breasts would be a better word but that would be misleading because some people would just imagine breast meat. This is the actual boob itself. I would guess that it actually tasted ok. But the image of me chomping on a pig's boobie actually made me think that it tasted "creamy" which then totally disgusted me. I'll put this on my never-again list. by the way... yes the pork boob is on the stick, don't mind the other boob in the background.
and for the creme de la creme...

brainGrilled pork brains
If you like fois grois then this is for you. Except the flavor I believe comes from the seasoning and the grilling rather than from the taste of the brain itself. The texture is similar to fois grois but dare I say... lumpier. Just this once is good enough for me.
Ahh... the wonders of Japan. Being able to eat freaky food in a first world country. Isn't that great?

I actually liked the raw beef liver. Never thought I would...
Raw pork?? Never heard of that before. And I thought all raw pork had worms of some-sort...
Raw horse was actually quite good. A bit like beef...
Horse was nice. A bit like lamb in my opinion. Especially when raw the gaminess tends to come out. Pork has worms? Hmm... I thought so too but I guess I'll check my stool later and then maybe, just maybe, I'll have a new health blog topic to talk about. ;)
Have you tried the pig ass??? It's huge up here!!!
Nasty stuff, all white and plump...stuff that makes you cringe with delight!
wow... if i saw the brains on the plate, i think i'd pass out... :-O
i give you courage for eating those things. really i do. i'm still iffy about beef tongue cooked.
eating any under - or no cooked meats will always leave a risk for getting sick. if the pig was fed something that was infected with a worm, they'll pass it onto whoever's eating them. so always be careful when you eat things like that:
