My season has started
Winter Camp and a trip to Hakuba
2 years in a row. That makes it a tradition right? Well Winter Camp is one tradition I wouldn't mind continuing. For the 2nd year in a row I've been able to go o Winter Camp with my school. A 2 night 3 day all expenses paid snowboarding trip to Minenohara Kogen in Nagano. 50 or so high school kids having thetime of their lives at a ski resort. How fun! These kids sure keep me young. I was assigned to chaperone the advanced level this year, making it so much more fun! Among all the snowball fights, eating snowcones(not yellow ones), and of course the boarding. It's suck a challenge to remember that I'm actually on the job. I actually got scolded by the ski patrol for racing the principal and the PE teacher in the downhill.
Recently I also went on my first private boarding trip. Day 1 at Iwatake and day 2 at Happo-one. Chris G. , Sven, ChrisH. and Hae jung I had an awesome time! Photos courtesy of HaeJung and Chris.
Looks cool doesn't it? See what really happened here. ^^

You went on the ski trip? Luuuucky. I went to jotsu kokusai dec. 28, and there wasn't any snow. You had to ride the lift up to the snow, and then back down to the bottom at the end of the day.
Great shots!! I'm impressed. I'm doing the same thing with my school next week. I'll be on skis though.;) I'm laughing about the guy scolding you! Very funny.
Kuba: Reallu had lots of snow at both places. No dirt patches like last year in the middle of the runs. Guess I was lucky.
Lori: Those kids must ROCK over there. I mean they GOT to right? It's like me being from Hawaii and not being able to surf!!
Oh... wait. I can't surf.. I can't even swim! DOH! :D
The kids do ROCK. Actually, so do the adults. You'd be surprised! It's a way of life here for sure. I've been skiing since I was a little kid but forget snowboarding. I truly suck. I'll try it again this season, just so I can make a fool of myself. I've taken a few lessons but it has yet to click. I keep waiting.;)
Why haven't you learned to swim dude? Never too late.
What did they do with the facilities from the Olympics? Can the public use them?
Lori: Sadly swimming is like my Japanese ability. I seem to be doing well without it so I'm to lazy to actually work on it. :(
Aaron: Well the public uses the courses. We raced down what was the Olympic down-hill and the winner got a round of beers. But facilities like the ski-jump aren't being used. In fact I found out that the the landing area to the ski jump is now a parking lot. Japan. Japans resorts are pretty ghetto in general now. Even the nicest places here pale in comparison to places like Whistler. Lifts close down often, lodges are run-down and management is horrible. Sad but our saving grace is that there are many resorts to chose from.
come backkkk
Rick, miss seeing your posts! you must be having a great time over there!

The ONLY reason I would want to teach at a public? School is the trips......and Summer vacation...and bonuses?
Some of my students just came back from School trips to Hokkaido.
