Free time

What do you do with it?

Read a book? Window shop? Me, I used to write on this blog. Then that died down and some idiot code-named “Jonathan” got me hooked onto a Facebook game called Warbook which then led on to *Battle Stations which then led on to *Elven Blood. I’m happy to report that now I don’t play anything. On the other hand, now, I don’t do anything. I sleep.

Like on weekends almost 12-13 hours day. It’s ridiculous. It’s like my brain shuts off and says, “Nothing to do, let’s sleep”. I even take naps at work for like 20min. It hits me right after lunch usually. How messed up is that? Thank God many of the other teachers doze off at their desk once in a while.

I’m getting dumber too I can feel it. My memory is going to crap. In fact I had to look up the names of those two games I mentioned with asterisks next to them because I FORGOT them. Seriously, how I forgot the names of the games I played for 4 hours a day, every day for like 2 months is beyond me.

I need to get my life going. Need to get beyond this procrastination and start studying my Japanese and A+ test. In fact writing this entry I’m sure is some sort of procrastination. How in the world do people get the motivation to be efficient/productive with their time?

Hey Ricky, what's up?

You know the brain is a muscle of sorts. If you don't exercise it, it begins to atrophy too. Because you keep active physically some parts of your brain, probably hand-eye coordination etc are in shape but maybe other areas of your brain have been neglected. Maybe you need to do some more activities that you are not used to doing to exercise those parts of your brain.

And forgetting stuff gets worse and worse, seriously I notice this alot nowadays when I can't remember famous actors names or what movie I watched the day before. It's bad.

Happy New Year Roy!!
What kinds of activities? Like doing multiplication tables in random orders everyday? I saw something about that on TV the other day. My brain is gonna petrify soon.

Here's an idea for a brain exercise that I devised a while back:

I used to be good at remembering people's names but a few years ago I started to forget and I came up with a method to improve my ability to recall things.

Basically you take a notebook and on each page you write a chapter in your life like elementary school, middle school, football team etc. And then you start writing people's names you can remember and if you met someone via someone else you draw a line out from the name of the person who introduced you to the new person so you can see the connection. You can also make connections for people who were couples, family any kind of connection or grouping is fine.

When you get to your adult periods it gets more complicated because you'll have complicated maps and connections but you get the basic idea.

Then once you're caught up to present day everytime you meet new people like at a party or at work or whereever you just take few minutes each day to add to your name map.

The purpose of this isn't just to remember people's names but to encourage your brain to think in terms of connections which is basically just improving your neural net..I haven't actually done this because I've been too lazy but I will one day. I think in theory it should work. If not it's still might be a fun exercise.

i bought those brain games for levi's DS...it's supposed to stimulate brain activity to keep you fresh. and like the commercials say - they really are fun. they do simple math - in random order like you are saying...and the point is to try to do it as quickly as possible. they also have memorization games and some eye-tracking games. try google "Brain Gym". it's an "exercise" or set of exercises many teachers use with their students. its body movements made to stimulate brain activity. i use some of the movements to keep myself focused during long boring meetings.

...glad to see you back and blogging again!

A+ as in assembly language? Are you planning to do some IT work again in Japan?

Roy: That friend association thing looks like the Friend Circle on Facebook!

Keiki: BrianGYM looks expensive and more for hand-eye coordination no? My hand-eye coordination is like off the charts. My memory capacity maxed out in high school.

Midori: I'm aiming for maybe 2 updates per month. Small realistic goals. You on Facebook?

Aaron:A+ is the IT technician certification from CompTIA. I have been planning to return to IT. For the past 6 years!

How can you blame someone who showed you being a geek can be fun, at least you used your brain. Being addicted wasn't good, but it was noone else's fault! Haha. I'm glad I never got into BattleShip. After I stopped WarBook, I'm over ALL FaceBook applications;)

A+ Test? Cisco? IT Stuff?
You'll be doing JLPT this year? Finally? Good on you man. I'll see if I need to study more Japanese (Results will be out in March).

Blog once in a while, it's... healthier than sleep. :P

PS: Phone bill came, but I still love ya. Hahahaha.
