No more slow boat
Went shopping online recently to combat loneliness. I found this great pair of Tommy Hilfiger sneaks for only $39.99. Sold! So I do what I usually do: I send them over to my sister up in Washington so I can have her slow boat it over to Japan. Whaddya know, the postal service has stopped international surface mail services! No more slow boat shipping from the US! DAMN!! So being the nice person she is she sent it the next cheapest route. Airmail - $41.60. More than the shoes themselves!
This sucks. It'll change my whole online shopping perspective. Actually when I say change, I mean that it's gonna erase it. Nothings a deal anymore if you have to airmail it here. Damn... anyone using any other alternatives?

Not really. I usually just break down and give in to the insane overseas shipping fees. It hurts!! Cute sneaks.
Aw... sorry they stopped the slow boat. :( could she re-route it so it doesn't "come from the US?"
Maybe you can get a trustworthy penpal in Hong Kong and they can send it from there? Hm... you may never see your items again. O_o

Actually i buy it online in the US. And shipping is usually free/really cheap to my sisters place. I don't buy anything from Hong Kong so I guess it wouldn't make sense to ship from there.
Tell me about it. Why are shipping charges so high? 99.9999% of the time, the shipping charges are at least 3 times the cost of the item I want. Mabbe they just want to discourage us from online shopping?
That's awful! I had the same problem too when I tried to send parcels from San Francisco to Sydney. It's actually heaps cheaper to send stuffs back to Manila from either Australia or the US. Hmm... there has to be a better way!
Hey there!!
The trick is, to order from a Japanese site, like amazon.co.jp or Rakuten. That way...the goods come straight from Japan. If they don't have it in stock, usually the company subsidizes the shipping to get it 'IN' for the Japanese customer. It may take a little longer, but I've found this the best way to get stuff these days.
Dan, Tokyo.
I've done Rakuten before but the catch is, I wanna buy American goods. So the Japanese sites often don't have the things that I looks for.
